This light is amazing. Buy it early in life so you can enjoy it longer.
It also works well simply hanging around your neck like a necklace. With the adjustable up/down pivot, you can walk in the darkness while illuminating your path and enjoying a hands-free experience.
The adjustable lumen output is very handy, and at 500 lumens it's very bright, too.

It puts out a lot of light, but the fact it cannot be focused to a high-intensity spot is a very major weakness. This was indicated in some of the reviews but I decided to take a chance on it. If you need to focus your headlight, do not buy this one. If Surefire made a lens that would focus the light, it would be much better. Battery life is also very short at the high output (less than 1 hour). It's also very pricey. I regret buying it, but now that I have used it probably should not return it.
Update 8-15-22: On several occasions now, I have put the light away after just fully charging it and when I went to use it, the battery was completely dead.
Update 9-3-13: I finally sent this light in to Surefire for repairs or replacement with the following message: "This light has been disappointing since I first purchased it. Battery life has always been very short (less than 1 hour). Many times, when I go to use it after it has had a full charge and I have stored it in the bag it came in, it will be completely dead. The last time I used it, I took it directly off the charger and the charge indicator light was orange. The light was very dim and flickered. I haven't attempted to recharge it."
I just spoke with customer service on the phone to get an update. I was told that there is nothing wrong with the lamp and that they are going to send it back to me. Well, I guess it's $185 down the tube. I would definitely not recommend it.
The customer service agent did tell me on the phone that the light must not be charged for more than 24 hours. This in not stated in the paperwork with the light.Reviewed by brownmu (Posted on 9/3/13)
