Avid shotgun sports enthusiast. Muffs hit the stock, and my ear canals are too small for most plugs. Bought them to try because of the sizing, they fit and work great. My wife has a pair for yardwork and loves them also. They do a great job rifle and handgun shooting outdoors, also, but I switch to muffs indoors where the noise is so much more contained. Love the fact that a conversation can be had with them in. May try some for flying. The buds last quite a while, clean them occasionally with alcohol, and I've only changed them twice in two years.

I've always used the SF Sonic Defenders as I don't like the bulkiness of the Peltors despite their better capability to suppress the loud noises.
The prior models have those plastic fins which on the one hand mold quite well inside the ear canal but on the other hand after hours and hours of wearing they start to become discomforting and sometimes irritate the area of contact.
It is well known that the form of our ears are very different from one individual to another. They are like our fingerprints. By introducing this new foam parts in different sizes SF has fixed the issues i have mentioned above.
For example in my case I have the Medium size holder but I have smaller ear canals thus I want to try the Small foam inserts to see if they work better than the Medium ones. That way i have the option of customizing the Defenders the way I need them to be.
Perfect fit! Best functionality given the less bulk

I'm an airline ramp agent and chose the EP7 for its 28dB NRR, highest of all Surefire's filtered earplugs.
I work around aircraft from CRJ-700s to B757s. The EP7 does an outstanding job attenuating the noise of aircraft APUs, jet engines and diesel ground equipment to a comfortable level while letting me hear and speak to my coworkers at closer to normal levels with them on. They do work a little too well, though, indoors by muting conversations but they are earplugs after all.
Overall, they're outstanding and are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I wish the replacement foam tips were much cheaper to replace.

I ordered the EP7 to use for deer hunting. I tried them out in the house and feel they muffle too much noise, even without the outer plugs in. I will not wear them in the woods. Hopefully I can use them around the house for large power tools. Otherwise I feel I wasted my money.

I am in Afghanistan and train men on automatic weapons and AK's. What a Blessing to have these protectors! They are small enough to store when not using them and while in use, they fit so comfortable that I sometimes dont even feel them.
Thanks for the great product.

They work well and fit properly, but to my ears there isn't much difference between them and a cheap disposable pair of foam ear plugs with the same or better NRR rating. Customer service told me these have a 40+ dB NRR with the auxiliary plugs inserted even though I questioned that. On arrival, I found my questioning was well-founded, being 28 dB with filter caps inserted. Nowhere near the 40+ I was told. I plan to go back to electronic earmuffs that don't require expensive foam tip replacement every 2-4 weeks (as stated). This is just one of those "better mouse trap" gadgets that gets the job done for sure, but isn't worth the hassle and added expense from my viewpoint.

Work great while wearing a Snell Approved Helmet. I can now spend a day at the track and hear what people are saying the next day. Vast improvement.

These work great. I've worn them at an outdoor range firing pistols and AR's with no problems. The canal tips do a great job of filling in the ear canal so all noise goes through the filters. These are now worn at work. It's great to ear my prep radio on traffic stops. I can also have normal conversations in the car and hear car radios. I'm highly confident that a major problem ever arise (i.e. shootout), my hearing will not suffer.

These are the very first plugs I have had in the past 10 years that fit absolutely perfect! They stay in place and they work! Thank you, SureFire!!

Definitely worth having. Forget you even have them on when under heavy machinery or at the range.

EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra protect your hearing without interfering with your ability to hear routine sounds or conversations. Their foam-tipped stem design, featuring soft memory-foam Comply™ Canal Tips, fits most people and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 28dB. Sounds, at safe levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates a special noise-reducing filter. EP7s include attached filter caps, which can be inserted for additional protection and blocking out lower-level noise, like that heard on a plane, in situations where hearing ambient sounds or conversations isn't critical. Right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders Ultra are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer that provides all-day comfort and an extended product life (up to 6+ months, depending on usage and care). Their patented EarLock® retention rings lock the earplugs in place, while soft foam-tipped stems provide secure seals in the ear canals. And their low-profile design means they can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while using a phone or headset. Available in clear, black, or orange.
Comfortable EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra also serve as earpieces for compatible radio communication systems* simply by removing the noise-reducing filter and attaching the earpiece to the system. NOTE: EP7 earpiece will not provide hearing protection if the noise-reducing filter is removed.
EP7s are available in small (S), medium (M), and large (L). Proper size is based on the dimensions of your ear's concha bowl. Size "medium" fits most people; however, to ensure the best possible fit, review the earpiece sizing chart by clicking on the Sizing Chart image. EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are sold as a single left/right set or in a box containing 25 sets. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case and includes a polymer lanyard and an extra set of memory foam Comply™ Canal Tips; replacements available--see Parts and Accessories on this page.
