- EWP-02 Surefire Pen II
For my EDC pen needs, I only purchase writing instruments with a minimalist design, time-tested, durable materials, confidence-inspiring hand-feel, and an unobtrusive, yet good-looking, finish. The EWP-02 fits the bill nicely. It's all-business, without superfluous features. The pen is nicely weighted and compact, with a thickness that feels substantial, without being "clunky"; the pen has just the right "heft". Think of the EWP-02 as the Glock 26 of tactical pens (as in concealed carry, or must-have back-up). The pen's hard-anodized, machined aircraft aluminum barrel is smudge-free, and highly scratch-resistant & nick-resistant. The barrel surface feels smooth and satiny, yet, non-slip on the fingertips. The pocket clip is stiff and grippy, so the pen stays in place; perhaps best suited for a shirt pocket, since the stiff clip is a bit tight to slip easily into a rugged pant pocket with thick pocket material, as with blue jeans, work pants or BDUs. For pant-pocket carry, I prefer a slightly longer, somewhat more springy pocket clip, to allow easier pant pocket insertion, a higher "ride" in the pocket, and a faster draw. This is just a personal preference. If you are serious about your gear, you will like this pen.
