SOCOM SFMB 762-5/8-24

I frankly I don't know what to say about this brake. I am doing this review because SureFire was very persistent about me completing one. While I am quite old, I am brand new to the new AR paradigm. I purchased a Sig MCX 300 BLKOUT, which I have made several modifications too. One of which was to purchase this muzzle brake. The primary reason I purchased this muzzle brake was to fit a SOCOM Mini DE QD Suppressor. The 2nd reason was because everyone has talked about how this muzzle brake significantly reduced recoil. I have to tell you, I shot approximately 300 rounds through the stock flash suppressor and about 200 rounds through this muzzle brake, all of it the same ammo, MAST Technology supersonic 147 FMJ and I have not noted any significant difference between this muzzle brake and the stock flash suppressor that came on the rifle. The Sig MCX 300BlkOut is not a heavy recoil weapon, so I will presume that there probably just isn't enough recoil to reduce. I am going to be very interest to see how much recoil there is when I get the SOCOM mini suppressor.

Haven't mounted yet

I have rated this with one stars, only so SureFire would be sure to read this and hold off on publishing my review.
I bought the SFMB to mount a SOCOM762-RC, SOCOM Series Sound Suppressor on a Ruger Long Range Precision, which I have on order, but have not gotten yet.
I bought a WARCOMP 762, to mount the SOCOM762-RC, SOCOM Series Sound Suppressor on my Sig 716, but decided to sell the Sig Sauer 716, since Sig will not put a longer than 16.5" barrel in the Sig 716.
So, I have two mounts that I have not put on guns yet!
I am going to replace the Sig 716 with a POF .308 with a 20" barrel. If shoots long range then I will not need the Ruger LR Precision .308, that I have on order.
I bought the silencer from a dealer back East and it hasn't even been transferred to my FFL dealer in AZ yet.
So I will update this if SureFire tells me how to update it when I get the product or products mounted and used.

Socom Muzzle Brake SFMB-762-5/8-24

The only reason this does not get five stars is because of the following reason...I purchased my first unit an authorized online dealer. The unit arrived and I was impressed to see the quality of the brake. I started to install it on my custom build long range rifle after cleaning all surfaces when it locked up about 1/3 of the way on. I am a machinist and when two pieces of stainless lock up there is no way to remove it. I had to take my barreled action to a local gunsmith to have him remove it. After putting it on the bench and trying to turn it off he gave me two options. One was to cut the threaded portion of my rifle off and the second was to turn the barrel on a lathe and cut the brake off. Being the my barrel is a 5R Mike Creek barrel the cutting of the barrel was out of the question. After he cut the brake off he took out his go/no go 5/8-24 thread tester and found that the barrel was fine and that the brake was the issue. The threads on the brake were cut too shallow causing it to bind and lock up. I then contacted Sure Fire and the had me return the brake for inspection. While they had this unit I decided to give Surefire another chance and purchased another locally. When I got home I once again cleaned both the brake and the threads on my barrel. I then installed the brake with no issues what so ever. I took the rifle out to the range started to sight in the rifle. I was amazed that the recoil was cut back to the point that I could actually see the splash. As for the brake I returned, they just contacted me after 3 months to notify me that the brake was defective and that I will be receiving a replacement within the next week...They make a great product but their quality control department needs to be more vigilant...

Amazing Felt Recoil Reduction

I was looking for a brake to put on to my Savage Hog Hunter .308, because I think a threaded barrel deserves a muzzle device, and unfortunately my state does not allow suppressors. While I agree with everyone that the .308 cartridge has mild recoil, it has enough to pop you off target so you can't spot your own shots. This thing cuts recoil down so much that I was able to spot the impact of the bullet in my target the moment it happened, all while maintaining +/- a perceived 1.5 mil sight deviation in my scope reticle. My rifle weighs 15lbs, and muzzle flip would make it very difficult to see impact. Now that I have the Socom Brake, its no problem even at 100 yards.

Description

SFMB-762-5/8-24
SFMB-762-5/8-24 084871319263
The advanced SureFire SFMB-762-5/8-24 muzzle brake, which fits the Armalite AR-10, DPMS LR308, and 7.62 mm rifles with 5/8-24 muzzle threads, greatly reduces both recoil impulse and muzzle rise and features neutral porting that loads bi-pod legs evenly. Its patented Impulse Diffusion design minimizes side blast and rear-directed concussion effects. The SFMB-762-5/8-24 also serves as a rock-solid mounting adapter for SureFire SOCOM Series 7.62 mm Fast-Attach® suppressors, the SOCOM762-RC model having recently won the Mk13 .300 Win-Mag sniper rifle contract award with the US Special Operations Command in the most extensive and rigorous suppressor testing ever conducted.

Precision machined from US mill-certified heat-treated stainless steel bar stock—including high-precision single-point cut threads for optimum thread interface—the SFMB-762-5/8-24 muzzle brake is given a black Ionbond DLC coating to provide maximum protection under harsh environmental conditions and to facilitate cleaning even after extreme use.

When used in conjunction with a SOCOM Series suppressor, the patent-pending design of the SFMB-762-5/8-24 provides multiple bearing surfaces to ensure superior suppressor alignment. A rear labyrinth seal minimizes potential carbon buildup in the indexing system and facilitates suppressor removal after extended firing.

All SureFire SOCOM Series muzzle brakes have blind pilot holes at the 3 and 9 o’clock position to enable fine-tuning of recoil characteristics for individual shooting styles or ammunition characteristics. They also have blind pilot holes at the 6 o’clock position to enable indexing the adapter at bottom dead center, and to pin-and-weld on short-barreled rifles. All that is required is a basic hand drill and appropriate drill bits.

SureFire muzzle brakes are individually inspected for concentricity and alignment, and each is covered by SureFire’s No-Hassle Guarantee.
