What is RoHS?
RoHS stands for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances," an authorized directive passed by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on January 27, 2003. The directive requires that manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment reduce the usage of six hazardous substances by July of 2006. These six substances include:

• Lead
• Hexavalent chromium
• Mercury
• Polybrominated biphenyl
• Cadmium
• Polybrominated diphenyl

What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for "Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment" and, like RoHS, is an authorized directive for European Union countries. WEEE establishes criteria for collecting, handling, and recycling waste from electronic and electrical products in European Union countries. Specifically it:

• Makes it mandatory for manufacturers to mark affected products with WEEE symbol
• Establishes requirements for WEEE collection
• Requires resellers to provide WEEE returns at no charge
