worked so well I bought one for my son for walking out to the blind during deer hunting

- Great Headlamp
Just got my second Minimus. I've had one for several years and really like it. I've used it pretty much daily. My wife wanted one so gave her the old one and just received the current addition. It's been upgraded in a few areas but pretty much the same package. I've used it a couple of weeks now and like it as much as the old one. These are high quality products that pretty much last forever.

- minimus (current version)
I have several Surefire flashlights and the materials/quality of the minimus is on par with the rest. The headlamp is comfortable enough to wear all night, and the beam quality/variable intensity is good. The only thing I don't like is the (lack of a) "detent" off position, which has an audible "click" but no physical detent. The click comes before the light is all the way off, and there is nothing from preventing the lamp from being turned on with the slightest rotation. I guess I will have to figure out a way to prevent the battery from discharging...

- Alright but could be better
The current version IS heavier than the old version!
The trickle drain is unacceptable. Pulling the lamp out of a trauma pack and having to immediately change the battery is a non start. Yes, it is more durable than the petzel offerings and the light quality is excellent when it runs, but it is out performed by a twenty dollar mag light AA, BECAUSE it lights up when you need it!!! Fix the trickle and it will be good to go.
Also making a AA "little brother" version would be a real win.

- Unfortunate "Improvements"
I had the first version of this headlamp and liked it so much I ordered another. Unfortunately, the new one, when it arrived was "improved." It's now about 1/3 heavier and is no longer appropriate for my lightweight backpacking use. I can also really feel it weighing against my forehead in an uncomfortable way.
This is a great shame. I can't see the need to add gratuitous weight to a great and simple product like this.

- Minimus headlamp
I have purchased the Minimus for working on Motorcycles and cars. It has the same quality as all surefire lights. Very bright, easily adjustable . Fits good and is comfortable. Have used many others, none compare to this.

- SF Minimus (1CR123) Headlamp
Have had this model (Minimus) for a few years now, used it mostly for night hiking. Overall it is pretty good however a few improvements would be appreciated. First, there is no 'lock-out' for the battery as found on other SF lights, this is an issue because there is a parasitic drain associated with electronic switches. In other words even when off the light drains a small amount of power. Second, the optics creates a annoying light prism directly below the headlamp. While not the worst thing it would be better not to have it. Third, although not stated in the manual, use of Li-ion batteries (4.2volt) is not recommended and would void the warranty if used and found to cause damage. Being unable to use these batteries makes it less versatile.
Now while of course brighter and longer running would be nice too I'll say the light to date has been good. Fit and finish are tops, light fits comfortably, the field of vision produced by the light is nice and wide (bring a handheld with throw for spotting), and while lighter would be nice it's compact enough. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 as is with the potential to be a 9 out of 10 with improvements.

- Excellent Pilots Night Flying Headlamp
As a pilot, I've been looking for a solid headlamp to use while flying at night. I've tried all of the usual suspects.... I adapted little flex boom tactical helmet lights.... all to lackluster results.
Then I tried the Minimus. This is an Excellent headlamp for the pilot in night flying scenarios. Clip on the red filter and you're ready to go. It is comfortable, has easy directional adjustment and the variable output adjustment makes dialing in the amount of light needed a snap. I recommend this headlamp to any pilot flying at night.

- awesome headlamp
i've had a million different headlamps for hiking, camping, hunting, etc....but this light tops them all. the full adjustability of the light really is great for not using more then you need, but just the right amount. Then crank it up to see the distant objects--all while impressing your other headlamp wearing friends. great light, highly recommend it.
