I have owned many flashlights in my life. This is my second Surefire, and they have solidified me as a loyal customer for life. The dual output mode allows you to use your light in "normal" circumstances without giving someone retina burn. When you need to really light it up though, 500 lumens gets the job done. For most consumers the output on this thing is PLENTY... really more than enough.
You have to remember too, that not all lumens are created equal. I have a friend who has a "purefire" (not exactly the name... but it was knock off... regardless... you get the point). His light was cheaper and claimed to be 1200 lumens. When we lit them up side by side, there was no comparrison. The surefire beam was bright and true, and he had to bow his head in embarresment. Walking around his farm, I could switch to the low output mode inside small feed sheds, and kick it up a notch to spot cattle over 250 yards away.
The only negative thing that I can think of, is that the flashlight does get hot when you use it in high output mode for too long. They do warn you of this, but it is almost too hot to hold. Do not let that dissuade you though, as there are not a lot of scenarios where you need to have the light in this mode for that long.
If you are on the fence... just do it! It is a torch that is virtually indestructible, and you will probably end up leaving it to someone in your will... as it will almost certainly outlast you!

Everyone knows that SF has excellent quality products backed by their second to none customer service so I'll skip raving about that and directly address this light.
The Fury (dual output) I purchased is a great light. The 500 lumens is extremely powerful and I find myself using the 15 lumen (task light/camp light) mode more often than not. Having the option of 15/500 lumens makes this a perfect EDC light or a perfect light for those looking to go minimalist on the amount of stuff they carry.
I called this light "good" with "great potential" because personally I believe it is missing three design features. 1). Texturing for better grip with or without gloves. Currently the light is far to smooth for positive control in cold or wet environments. 2). Strike bezel. I believe a strike bezel is very important for anyone to possess as a last minute defensive measure or just to provide extra stand off from the lens when storing the light. It is irritating that only the single output 500 lumen Furies have strike bezels. 3). Anti-roll features. This light easily rolls, which I wouldn't mind as much if the grip was better textured Forrest positive handling.
Again, these are my critiques of what is an extremely good and versatile light. I'm not a fan of constantly growing lumen counts and there is such a thing as too bright. The dual output Fury strikes an excellent balance - worth your hard earned money.

Really the perfect combination between a night light and a supernova. At night the 500lumin beam is strong enough to light up a warehouse 75yards away and to stop my 6'9 360lbs coworker/bouncer in his tracks. The low setting is great for checking bags. Thanks for another great light. Stop by Tipitinas(neworleans) if you want to see it in action.

I bought the P2X Fury (500 lumens) to replace a lost 320 lumens flashlight. Of course this is a great quality flashlight and well worth the money…I was expecting more light out of 500 lumens so if you’re on the fence whether to get a 500 or 1000 lumen light…..Go with the 1000 Lumen! You won’t be sorry! Great light, Great price!!

From lighting up a campsite; seeing what kind of fish is on the line in the lake at night; lighting up the entire inside of a machine at work; checking out a bump in the night at home... I've done it all with this light.
Where others would fail with their mass-marketed well-known AA flashlights, this one is akin to turning on a sunbeam.
The only con is that it sucks batteries fairly quickly. Have spares on hand and learn to change them in the dark!

This is an awesome light! I have 8 surefire lights and I will always need one more! I have from the 6P to the M900A and the fury is my favorite. I like the dual settings and when you hit that 500 lumens even the smallest specks of blood can't hide from you! Whether I'm hunting or fishing my Fury is always close by. When I buy a surefire product, I can count on 2 things for sure and that's great quality and great customer service! Thanks surefire! Keep lighting the way! And especially Thanks for what you do for our men and women in the military!

Very solid and bright light for my duty belt. Love the low/high beam options. 500 lumens is BRIGHT. Will probably buy another as a backup in glovebox. Recommend.

The P2X Fury uses a high-efficiency, virtually failure-proof LED to deliver your choice of either 15 or 500 lumens of perfectly focused light, the latter qualifying the Fury as a pocket-sized searchlight. The 15-lumen level is excellent for general work at close-to-medium distances, and also lets you greatly extend the runtime per set of batteries, a valuable option when you're miles from civilization. At either setting the high-strength polymer micro-textured reflector delivers a smooth, comparatively wide beam with a brighter central area and generous peripheral light. The Fury is activated with a click-type tailcap switch: press for momentary-on low, press further to click constant-on low; return to off and press or click on again within two seconds for high. The high-strength aerospace aluminum body is smoothly sculpted for a comfortable, secure grip and is hard anodized to military specifications for extreme resistance to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion.
