Decent with one flaw.
Packaging: this is important because I think cutting my hands open for a $20 product is unnecessary. I think it's redundant to have the ear pros further wrapped in hard plastic when they were already inside outer packaging. Surefire, you could have solved this with putting the ear pros in a reusable, tiny ear bud type case, and wrapped the outer in something non plastic. It's overkill.
Hearing protection: they did a great job here, as I could easily hear a friend talking with the caps out and almost nothing with them snapped in. As far as comfort, they do take some practice and time getting used to. The instructions were helpful, and making sure that the foam portion is rolled down before inserting helps a lot with comfort, as they will expand inside.
Overall, I am pleased but please, just fix the overkill on packaging.

2 stars out of 5 - could be better
for 20 dollars plus shipping these should work much better than they do. I usually wear them in a data center and they work pretty well for blocking out the machine noise of the thousands of servers all running in there at once. I wouldnt say I can hear people talking easily but its much easier than having foam plugs in or over the ear cups. But if I wanted to hunt with these Id never be able to hear a turkey off in the distance or if I was in the military Id never hear a guy sneaking up behind me to knife me in the back while I was looking out over the rooftops for threats.
The big problem comes in when you actually go to the range and theres any one there with a muzzle brake or compensator and its not you. I went to the range last night with mine in and I have to admit even with the plugs in the "noise breakers" it was still painful to be 2 stations away from a guy with an AR15 and a comp.
So they are too quiet when they need to let noise in and too loud when they need to keep noise out when it comes to their intended use... however they are pretty good for working around noisy machines... so thats a plus. I also go the 'flesh' toned ones so people cant tell Im even wearing them most of the time... 2 stars for 2 good points.

Purchased these directly from surefire for 20 a pop and then saw they were on primary arms for sale at 7 dollars. Also the in earbuds aren't very durable or impressive. Unimpressed

After buying this version, I was very pleased at how well they fit and block out noise. I had to remove the filters in order to hear anything in the shop, but even with the filters removed, they still block out a good amount of the loud noises from loud running cars, air tools, hammers and tires popping from being mounted. And it is more convenient for me to replace the foam tips rather than the whole thing, like with the other models. I am definitely recommending these to my coworkers.

Another great product
I started out using EP3 system about a year ago. I bought a pair of these while at a range in Arizona and will not ever use anything other than EP7 from here on out. They fit better than anything I have used before and the ability to use long arms without the bulk of over the ear protection and yet have equal to if not better noise reduction do I need to say more. I head to the range at least once a week and typically fire between 200 and 500 rounds of mix caliber rifle and handgun after several hours of use there is no discomfort in wearing them and with the center plugs removed you can have a conversation without removing them from your ears. Thank Surefire for another great product.

Received in reasonable time period. Have only got a chance to use with a few quick shot's from my... "skeeter .22"...Only complaint is I didn't start using these or some other brand yrs. ago. A good investment.

Bought these for shooting my 223 and 45 guns. I have never worn a better ear protector and can still hear someone talking without pulling them out. I also used them in a metal deer blind and had no effects from the concussion I felt from my 30-06. Great product!

Good ear protection
Needed something to cut the wind noise when riding my M/C. Most helmets are still noisy. Foam throw a-ways will get by, but I wanted something better.
These EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are excellent. They are a little different to insert into the ear, but after you get it figured out, they are fantastic.
Have not yet used them for shooting, but I am sure they would work quite well.
Bought two pair. Money well spent.

Great shop hearing protection - EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra
I purchased the EP7 Ultras to use in an automotive shop environment. I chose them for the pass through design that allows me to hear normal conversation voice while significantly reducing harsh pneumatic impact tool noise and the constant "wind" noise caused by exhaust fans. The only issue I have is they start to hurt after extended use but I think I may have gotten the wrong size or measured my ears incorrectly. Overall a great product that I would recommend to friends/coworkers and purchase again in the future.

Bought these to shoot trap after using foam ear plugs for years. The only "odd" thing I noticed was I could hear guns closing, etc as clearly as I could without protection. Once the shot is fired, the plugs do their job. I've recommended them many times and quite a few of the shooters at the range now use them. They work great!

EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra protect your hearing without interfering with your ability to hear routine sounds or conversations. Their foam-tipped stem design, featuring soft memory-foam Comply™ Canal Tips, fits most people and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 28dB. Sounds, at safe levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates a special noise-reducing filter. EP7s include attached filter caps, which can be inserted for additional protection and blocking out lower-level noise, like that heard on a plane, in situations where hearing ambient sounds or conversations isn't critical. Right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders Ultra are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer that provides all-day comfort and an extended product life (up to 6+ months, depending on usage and care). Their patented EarLock® retention rings lock the earplugs in place, while soft foam-tipped stems provide secure seals in the ear canals. And their low-profile design means they can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while using a phone or headset. Available in clear, black, or orange.
Comfortable EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra also serve as earpieces for compatible radio communication systems* simply by removing the noise-reducing filter and attaching the earpiece to the system. NOTE: EP7 earpiece will not provide hearing protection if the noise-reducing filter is removed.
EP7s are available in small (S), medium (M), and large (L). Proper size is based on the dimensions of your ear's concha bowl. Size "medium" fits most people; however, to ensure the best possible fit, review the earpiece sizing chart by clicking on the Sizing Chart image. EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are sold as a single left/right set or in a box containing 25 sets. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case and includes a polymer lanyard and an extra set of memory foam Comply™ Canal Tips; replacements available--see Parts and Accessories on this page.
