- Great for Work, Good for Hunting, Not Good for Target Shooting
I got the Surefire EP4s for the purpose of hunting. In previous years I've used Sonic II plugs for hunting but I was looking for something that did a better job of allowing ambient noise in and were less likely to fall out. The EP4s fit great in the ear and stay where they are supposed to, and they let in more ambient sound than the Sonic IIs did, making it easier to hear wildlife walking in the woods. However, they don't work as well at cancelling out firearm blasts - my first test shot with a 12 ga. shotgun left my ears ringing. I wore them deer hunting in Maine and was very pleased with the comfort and ability to hear things around me, but I didn't get a shot that week to test out blast cancelation in a hunting scenario.
Since then I’ve worn the EP4s at work and am very pleased at the comfort and amount of loud noise that they keep out in the workplace while allowing me to hear other people talking. I sealed off the valves with the plugs (pretty much making them an EP5) and I can still hear what I have to without allowing damaging noise levels in (I have since gotten EP5s for this purpose but haven’t used them yet). The EP4s are so comfortable that I often leave work and forget to take them out until sometime later.
I don’t think these would ever work well for target shooting at the range – as it is I often use foam plugs plus muffs for that purpose, depending on what I’m shooting. I love them for the workplace and my overall analysis would be that they let in more sound than any other plug (such that I wear them more often and therefore protect my hearing more than I ever did before) but they don’t protect as well against louder sounds (such as firearms blasts). I recommend them for the lower ranges of damaging sound levels but not for the higher ranges. They are very comfortable and there is no need to worry about them falling out in the workplace or having them pulled out by a briar or tree branch out in the woods.

Thank you for the quick order respnse! I have not been able too test them yet due to limits on my time.
They fit great and am sure that they will out preform my old styroforms. I will get back as soon as I can use them.

Took a lil getting used to the fit, but otherwise worked well @ the ranges, both indoor and out.

Not good enough for stand alone protection. 45 ACP on up needs muffs to properly protect your hearing.

- pretty happy
The plugs work great for my shotguns and 22LR, but for my 9.3*62 it is not good at all... I thought my head was going to fall of when i tried it last week...

- Effective and useful
The best solution for noise reduction during live performances and rehearsals to date. These comfortably insert like expensive custom fit in-ear monitors, securely stay in place, allows a perfect low level through, and are virtually invisible to the audience. I have ordered several pairs for all of our musicians- would recommend this product to every musician unhappy with conventional earplugs but concerned with hearing protection.

As someone who is x-military and was exposed to all kinds of intense noise and sounds, I owe your EP4's much thanks in keeping my hearing from being exposed to excessive sounds that could have damaged or impaired my hearing. Even now that I am retired and now work around loud machinery I still intrust my hearing protection to my EP4's Thank You!!

- Comfortable and great working
I bought these to use at work, the EP3s were great, these EP4s are even better. I haven't had the opportunity to try the EP4s at the Range yet, but the 3s, with the plugs in, are just like wearing muffs. The EP4s are so comfortable, I've actually gone home with them still in. Only 1 fault I can find, and that's the case they come in. The 1st case fell apart after about a dozen uses. I would actually be willing to shell out a few more bucks for a durable holder for these very useful earplugs.

- You Won't Be Disappointed
Got these a few months ago on a whim. I decided to go back to the earmuffs because the in the ear ear plugs were rubbing my ears raw constanty putting them in and pulling them out. When I found these I fugured I would give them a shot. Just buy them. It's totally worth it. They're comfortable and when youre out at the range you don't have to pull them out to talk.

EP4 Sonic Defenders® Plus protect your hearing without interfering with your ability to hear routine sounds or conversations. Their triple-flanged stem design fits larger ear canals and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 24dB. Sounds, at safe levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates a special noise-reducing filter. EP4s include attached filter caps, which can be inserted for additional protection and blocking out lower-level noise, like that heard on a plane, where hearing ambient sounds or conversations isn't critical. Right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders Plus are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer that provides all-day comfort and an extended product life (up to 6+ months, depending on usage and care). Their patented EarLock® retention rings lock the earplugs in place, while soft, adjustable triple-flanged stems provide secure seals in the ear canals. A low-profile design means EP4s can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while using a phone or headset. Available in clear, black, or orange.
Comfortable EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus also serve as earpieces for compatible radio communication systems* simply by removing the noise-reducing filter and attaching the earpiece to the system. NOTE: EP4 earpiece no longer provides hearing protection once the noise-reducing filter has been removed.
EP4s are available in small (S), medium (M), and large (L). Proper size is based on the dimensions of your ear's concha bowl. Size "medium" fits most people. For those with smaller (in diameter) ear canals, the two-flange stem of our EP3 Sonic Defenders may provide a better fit than the EP4's three-flange stem.

EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus are sold as a single left/right set or in a box containing 25 sets. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case and includes a polymer lanyard.
