I have purchased 2 of the defenders and 2 of the Furys by surefire. The reason for buying two of each? My first set of flashlights are so popular and of the highest quality, I have passed them on to children who desire their consistency. Leaving me in need of solid dependable tactical lights. I have owned other brands but none have the build and finish of Surefire.

I purchased this light to use as my EDC, and it works great. The light is very bright, and the flashlight body is very durable.
The clip did break on mine, but Surefire sent me a replacement clip within a week for free. They really do stand behind the quality of their products, and are willing to fix things when they break.

Excellent product, top notch. I own many surefire products and have always been happy.

For a tactical, defense or gun light, I would prefer the light come on at the higher level on first press, otherwise at low level, so here is an idea:
Select high or low output by twisting cap.
Then use press tail button for momentary on or click to lock on, click again to turn off. This way you can leave in the mode you want for next access.
You could even add additional modes to twist cap like strobe or SOS.

Just a wonderful flashlight! It puts out an intense and well-defined beam. There is no "hiding in a corner" from this light!

I have had this light for about a month. I love it. I had a 6px pro which functioned flawlessly for about 3 years now. It is now my wife's as a companion to her 9mm which is nightstand ready. Surefire had the reputation for quality with me already.
The 500 lumen initial on is great. The versatility of the switching is great, so if I don't want the power I just click quick to the 5 lumen. When I step out on the patio at night to let out the dogs, I can quickly scan along the border of the woods at the back edge of my property for any threat. The light has excellent beam throw and penetration. And then there is the capability to use the flashlight as a cutting and scraping weapon if all else fails.
I do technical troubleshooting for a living and this light lets me see into dark areas with powerful illumination to identify possible trouble sources. I like the textured grip, the weight and look of the light. Most of all, with Surefire, the light will come on with a powerful steady beam every time I call for it. No blinking, fading or any other type of failure.
I carry this light every day. Is it expensive? Yes, but what is such a powerful, versatile, bulletproof and possibly life saving light that will give years of trouble free service worth?

This little light is the best product going. 500 scorching lumens are absolutely blinding. Outside of pepper spray, this is the best non-lethal defense device you can buy.
If you need a makeshift room light, just click it to the needed power and set it on it's tail on a flat surface. The light reflected on the ceiling will light up the room.
The only changes I would make to it would be
1. Provide the option to have the 5 lumen light be the first click and the 500 lumen light the second. I use the 5 lumen much more often and you have to step through the blinding 500 first to get to the more used 5.
2. Make it in an alternate color than black. I work at night and black gear disappears making it tough to find and easy to forget if I put it down.

This is all anyone would need in a small flashlight. It is easily pocketable and has tremendous power, far beyond what one would expect from a flashlight so compact. It is fun to have around. Love it!

This is my second handheld pocket light from surefire the first was the 200 lumen predecessor to this one. I still have it and carried it with me in the USMC for about 3 years. It is a great light and keep it in the car as a backup. The new 500 lumen version did what I wanted and what I wanted was a brighter light that was the same size. I carry it at work every day of the week and use it constantly through out the day. The only problem I have had with this light is the pocket clip. I like the clip a lot better than the other one I have because you can flip it either way in your pocket, but it is thin metal. I have broke two since August it is now October. When it snaps I call surefire up and have a new one to me in a few days so I'll keep breaking them and they can keep sending them. Keep making a good product and I'll keep using them.

It's incredible to get this much light out of a palm sized flashlight. Everyone I show this to is amazed. I also own an LX2 which is also bright, but not as bright. One think I prefer about the LX2 is that low beam comes on first followed by high beam. Whereas the E2D comes on with high beam first then low beam. But, I still love the E2D. Good job on this design.
