- Solid Performer
I bought the U2 Ultra to replaced a lost single battery Outdoorsman and I am very pleased with the higher variable lumens which is key for early morning and late evening hunting excursions back to the truck or locating downed deer.
I will look into purchasing a red lens so as to remain unseen by the critters. It would perfect if Surefire made this model with twin color LED's....Are you listening R&D people??

Very good range of brightness, battery life as advertised, the usual Surefire durability. I'm using the adjustable output more than I thought I might and find that that feature is frequently more handy than the 2 levels many of my other flashlights (Defender etc) The head is a bit larger than I'd expected but isn't slowing my usage.

- U2 ULTRA
I have owned eb1,e1b, g2x tactical, e2l, but the U2 ultra is my favorite, due to the light output from 2 hours on high and 175 hours on low not bad plus a very strong tailcap click switch I prefer. The U2 ultra is my favorite flashlight, I love it so much iam keeping it forever.

The U2 ultra is noticeably heavier and bigger than my EDC light (Surefire Stratum) right out of the box. At first glance I notice the U2 has a very small amount of spill compared to the Stratum. The click switch on my Stratum is also easier to quickly change through the levels one handed. Over all I am not as pleased with my purchase as I have been with my other Surefire purchases throughout the years. I currently own an E2D executive defender from 2000, P2X Fury Defender, 2 of the old G2X models and of course the Stratum. I'm still considering purchasing the E2D ultra a P3X and the annihilator model. I'd like to see a variable output light like the U2 with a 750 lumen max and even a strike bezel!

I have owned this light since it was introduced and it is my favorite. The ability to modulate the light intensity over such a wide range makes it the one light I always travel with. My original one was stolen in France; I immediately replaced it. Worth the price.

- Beats Maglite
I used to buy only Maglites but this flashlight is hands down better. You can still adjust the brightness but the light reaches farther, it's brighter and the batteries last longer.

- Had to keep it.
I originally bought this flashlight for my nephew who's a Correctional Officer but decided liked so much I had to keep it. Being able to tune in exactly how much light you need is a great battery saver.

- Most Versatile Light I've Ever Owned
The U2 Ultra is by far the most versatile light I ever owned - and on top of that has the most intuitive user interface of all. Just a selector ring - turn the output up from 2 to 100 lumens in under a second... or vice versa, just by turning the ring! What a contrast between this user interface and all those "push-ten-times-to-get-the-right-output" lights!
Size is just right: not too small, so you can grip it firmly under all circumstances, not so large you rather want to leave it at home.
Light output is smooth and bright white, and reaches surprisingly far for "just" 100 lumens maximum output. It has a lot if usable spill too. For normal use, setting "3" is adequate and guarantees a very, very long battery life. The range of 2 to 100 lumens is a 1:50 output range, which is really good to have. Select the lowest setting for looking at a watch in a pitch dark tent - and you won't be blinded. Need to see far into the bush? Select the highest level and that piercing beam will penetrate the bush very far.
Build quality is just flaswless and perfect: I'm afraid this flashlight will live longer than I do!!
Bottom line: the best and most versatile flashlight I ever owned. Glad I pulled the trigger on this one instead of a $5,- light from the supermarket. I"ll never regret that decision...
