The perfect combat light for defense at close/moderate range. The beam is perfect, brighter in the center, no "spotlight effect", diffusing to a room filling light. I started many years back with the 6P, have given 6P and G2 lights to loved ones. Have an X200 on a Kimber, lighted forend on an 870, have two E2L Outdoorsmans. The earlier one survived two washer and dryer events, still flawless. Wanted the L4 for many years, economic downturn put it on the back shelf. When I received mine a few weeks ago, I was amazed what a perfect light it is. The "lumen wars" and "multi-feature wars" are raging. Many are two bright for close range. And a combat light should have on/off, no multi BS. The size and feel are awesome - so much thinner and ergonomic than any competitor. Wish I had bought it years ago! My son thinks I'm over the top to spend so much on equipment, but if it's ever needed, I will be truly alone - no squad to back me up, no possibility of calling in an air strike - I stand between my loved ones and certain horror. I trust Surefire to see me through.

I have about 6 or 7 Surefire lights and this is one of my favorites. I like turning up the power to light up an area, and turning it down when your working on something close. Great light

The plastic Surefire I already had employs a different switch ( tighten the tail cap and it comes on . Press button with loose cap for momentary use .
This light is off even with the tailcap tightened . The button controls both constant and momentary modes . The loosened tail cap acts as a safety ; to accidentally turn on the light, you'd have to tighten the tail cap and push the button . This is a much safer system for a light that can get hot in use .
The metal body is thinner . The light is brighter .
Now I need to give my plastic one to someone .
I like having the best but must point out that a Mini Maglite LED 2 AA cell light is fine for walking a dog and most other situations , so those on a budget may be able to do without a Surefire . Of course, if you need to fire a pistol, discombumerate at attacker or find your way out of a burning building, you want a Surefire of one model or another .

The L4 is my 3rd SureFire light. I also have a 6PX Pro and an M951. Of the three, the L4 is my favorite. I purchased it to go with my CCW for EDC. It is bright, unobtrusive, and easy to conceal. I spent some time shooting with it this weekend and it is much more comfortable to to use than the 6PX. It may have been my best purchase this year.

I really like the fact that the L4 has a wider beam than some of my other surefire lights. I carry this in my car at all times. I've also taken it camping with me. The long lasting battery is a plus. I rarely change out batteries. Great size too.

The L4 LumaMax is a terrific flashlight! It perfectly satisfied my need for a compact but very bright flashlight. It is more powerful and more effective than other manufacturer's flashlights several times its size. It's quality is typical Surefire!!
