Surviving the Elements
Neither rain nor sleet nor snow... You get the idea—SureFire delivers.

I am a cave explorer and photographer based out of Austin, Texas. My SureFire E2D Defender® is a key component of my life support in the inhospitable underground.
Most recently, my experiences have taken me to Oaxaca, Mexico, to assist the United Stated Deep Caving Team on an international expedition to push Cueva J2, the fourth deepest known cave in the western hemisphere, and the logistics involved are immense. My E2D serves as my primary backup light, mounted sidecar within immediate reach on my helmet. With the help of my SureFire, I reached a total depth of -1100 meters (three-days deep) and at one point spent 10 days underground. J2 is one of the most difficult caves in the world, involving hundreds of meters of technical vertical rope work and dangerous underground canyons filled with powerful waterfalls and streams. Constant contact with rocky walls and complete submergence are just a few of the many things my light has to put up with on a regular basis.
My E2D not only survived, but looks a lot better than almost every other piece of equipment that entered the cave with me. I can say without a doubt that caves of this nature are some of the most unsympathetic places on earth, and I trust my life to my SureFire, knowing it's right at home at the end of the earth. You can see photos of the light (post 10-day push) by clicking here.
Thank you, SureFire.
